Assign Manual Video Thumbnail for Hosts Without FFMPEG

Under Consideration

Dear Team NetObjects,

Please consider developing a method to manually assign a video thumbnail for hosting services without FFMPEG. I'm currently using InMotion Hosting (IMH), which appears on your recommended hosts and they do not offer FFMPEG on their shared hosting.

Thank you kindly,

This is a "must" since many hosts don't come with FFMPEG or has it installed in a "non standard path" making Koken not recognizing it (Tried to correct this my editing the /storage/configuration/user_setup.php to no avail.).

Hi

Yes, this feature is absolutely necessary as most users will be on some kind of shared platform or wont have the skills needed to implement it on their site.

thanks

Check this idea:

If we have a good plugin for video we don't need to use our bandwidth.

Since installing FFMPEG is a pain i. t. a., I suggest you simply provide 2 extra fields in the app:

- one for thumbnail specification/upload

- one for an alternative .ogv version of the video

THIS IS SIMPLE, I already set it up this way with another CMS. Mediaelementplayer can be fully customized.

Hi, a workaround has just been posted: https://kokensupport.com/vi...

The possibility of adding your own thumbnail to your uploaded videos is still much needed. It would be appreciated very much if you could do it. :)

This is so very much needed! Cant show of my video work in album view because of this silly FFMPEG bullshit (vimeo not an option), and thats a real bummer since everything else about koken is awesome!

I have a group project I'm developing right now that is based around Koken, and it could really benefit by having a far easier - and less rigid - option to support video without a compiled instance of FFmpeg purely for thumbnail creation. I prefer self-hosted scripts that allow me to have control over site stability, content, and complete customization whenever possible, so no this wouldn't be a managed hosting candidate.

I've recently committed to 2 prepaid years with a new-for-me hosting provider (also usings SSD's, and with LiteSpeed) just so that I can run Koken with ImageMagick. I'm certainly not considering jumping to some other service for the sake of FFmpeg access to only throw that money away, when there really is no need for constant on-the-fly thumbnail generation.

Keep in mind that there is a large user base of non-professional filmakers, experimental video artists, hobbyists of all types, and even tech-minded parents with tons of kids and cats videos, that would like to have a shared-hosting friendly solution for video. There are even more non-creative types who need a video-supported solution that doesn't involve them using YouTube or Vimeo for visual presentations. Expand the Koken universe and gain an entirely new bunch of plugin and theme buyers.

And considering that... has anyone ever thought about making it a new paid plugin? Sign me up.
